Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has been included in Bengal’s probable list of 50 players for the upcoming domestic season 2025-26. He has been out of the team since the end of the Champions Trophy.
Shami missed the second half of IPL 2025 with an injury and was not included in the Indian squad for the ongoing Test series against England. The pacer had previously returned to competitive cricket in early November after a long injury layoff.
He recently suffered ankle and knee injuries that has kept him out of the team once again. His return to domestic cricket squad is an indication that he is on the path of recovery.

Don't Thin Mohammed Shami Could Have Played 5 Tests - Ajit Agarkar
Mohammed Shami played a pivotal role in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, taking nine wickets in five games, joint highest with Varun Chakravarthy. He then had a lean run with Sunrisers Hyderabad, picking just six wickets in nine matches at an economy of 11.23 per over.
Team India Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar spoke about Mohammed Shami’s injury-prone body being one of the key reasons behind him not getting selected for the Test series. He said that the doctors told that Shami could not have played all five Tests in England.
"The medical guys have told us that he has been ruled out of this series. He has been trying to be fit for the series, but he had a setback over the last week, and he has had some MRIs done. I don't think he was going to be able to play five tests. We were hoping he would be available for at least some part of the series, but if he is not fit at the moment, it will be very difficult to keep waiting. It is unfortunate. We always want to pick a bowler like him," Agarkar had said during a press conference.
