All-rounder Jamie Overton has been added to England’s squad for the fifth Test against India. The match will be played at The Kennington Oval in London from July 31. Overton plays for Surrey and was part of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). This is the only change England have made from the squad that played at Old Trafford.
The fourth Test in Manchester ended in a draw. England were on top for most of the match but could not take 10 wickets in the second innings. Three Indian batters, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar scored centuries, while KL Rahul played a 90-run knock as the visitors saved the game.
England’s bowlers had to work hard in that match. They bowled over 250 overs across both innings. After the game, captain Ben Stokes said that the team might need fresh legs for the next Test.

Oval Test to Decide the Series
England are leading the series 2-1. They won the first Test at Headingley and the third at Lord’s. India won the second Test in Birmingham by a big margin of 336 runs. The fourth Test was drawn.
Now the final game at The Oval will decide the series. Jamie Overton has been brought in as an all-round option. He has played only one Test so far in his career. He made his debut against New Zealand in 2022 and scored 97 runs in the first innings of that Test.
For England, the rest of the squad stays the same. They would want to finish the series strong. A win in London will give them a famous home series win against India.
