BCCI comes to aid as Nepal Cricket Team to train at Center of Excellence ahead of T20 World Cup qualifiers

Nepal Cricket Team have got a massive boost ahead of the T20 World Cup Qualifiers as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will offer help to the Asian team in their Center of Excellence in Bengaluru from August 20 to September 4 as part of Nepal's preparation for the T20 World Cup qualifiers, a initiative that is backed by the Indian government to "connect the youth of two countries."

The T20 World Cup qualifiers are scheduled to be played in October this year. The global event will be held in India & Sri Lanka in 2026. For the unversed, India had previously supported the Nepal Team at the Center of Excellence in August 2024. Nepal had participated in a tri-series T20 practice against teams Baroda and Gujarat Cricket Associations before the showpiece event held in the West Indies & USA in June 2024.

“Cricket cooperation has added a new dimension to the deep-rooted and age-old historical ties between India and Nepal, connecting the youth of the two countries through a shared passion for cricket,” an Indian government official stated.

Nepal set to repeat the same form they showed in the T20 World Cup 2024

For the unversed, Nepal were the underdog team of the T20 World Cup 2024, as it gave tough competition to South Africa, Netherlands, and Bangladesh. Placed in Group D - termed as the Group of Death, Nepal almost pulled off an upset win over South Africa. However, their inexperience came to the fore as they failed to chase a lowish total, as the Proteas eventually won the game by just one run.

Apart from that match, Nepal also gave Bangladesh a tough time. In the build-up to the T20 World Cup qualifiers, Nepal has shown good form. It won't be a surprise if they make it to the showpiece event for the 2026 event. India's support has been very good in Nepal, progressing as the top team from Asia. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar had met the Nepalese men’s cricket team and representatives and delivered the message, “conveyed India’s support for the growth of cricket in Nepal”.
